INTRODUCING, THE DOWER HOUSE

Hosts Ian and Diana Mackenzie, and their family, welcome you to the Dower House, Akaunui. A 120 year-old cottage, the home provides luxury boutique accommodation on their 500 hectare property. Akaunui (Maori for ‘Longbeach’) was part of the original Longbeach Station taken up by John Grigg in the 1860s.
The Dower House is an inviting and homely refurbished cottage boasting a wrap around verandah, modern bathroom and kitchen with 2 bedrooms, set in its own impeccable garden. In the event extra accommodation may be required, there are a further 2 bedrooms available in a detached sleep-out. The Dower House can comfortably sleep 8 guests.

Bed configurations are as follows: two bedrooms (1 x Master King Suite and 1x Queen bed) in the Dower House, with two bedrooms (1x Queen bed and 2 x Single beds) in the sleep out. All beds are made with indulgent linen that will make you want to curl up with a book and enjoy the countryside ambiance.

The Dower House is nestled amongst an organic vegetable garden supplying fresh, seasonal produce. Dinner and lunches can be served at the main homestead by your hosts Ian and Diana or you can harvest and prepare your own!
